We have been surprised by the mis-information and lack of information available on calculating the gallonage of ponds. This is particularly important when Koi treatments are administered. There are 7.48 U.S. Gallons per cubic foot (6.23 British Imperial Gallons). Let's calculate the gallons contained in a fountain/pond: Circumference = 3.1416 * diameter = measurement of 42 feet Diameter = 42 / 3.1416 = 13.37 feet Radius = diameter/2 = 6.68 feet Surface area = 3.1416 * (Radius)2 = 3.1416 * 44.68 = 140.37 sq ft Water depth = 27 inches / 12 inches = 2.25 feet Volume = surface area * depth = 140.37 * 2.25 = 315.84 cubic feet Gallons = cubic feet * 7.48 = 315.84 * 7.48 = 2,362.5 U.S. gallons Now, we must subtract the volume of the statue base, the plant volume and the concrete bases for plants. Then, we need to add the volumes of water in the 3 bowls above the statue. An easy way of finding the gallons held in the 3 bowls is to turn the pump off and measure the increase in water depth as the bowls drain. Since we know that 27 inches of water gives 2,362.5 U.S. gallons, then 2362.5 / 27 = gallons per inch of depth = 87.5 gallons/inch |
